Understanding Your Child's Progress

What accuracy scores mean and when to talk to your therapist.

When your child practices, Sound Safari tracks their accuracy — the percentage of words they produce correctly.

What the numbers mean:

  • Below 50% — Your child is still learning this sound. This is normal for new or difficult sounds. Keep practicing with support.

  • 50-70% — Making progress. The sound is emerging but needs more practice to become consistent.

  • 70-85% — Great progress. Your child is getting the hang of it. Practice helps make it automatic.

  • 85%+ — Excellent. Your child is producing this sound accurately. Continue practice to maintain the skill.

What to keep in mind:

  • Progress isn't always linear — some days will be better than others

  • Accuracy at home may differ from accuracy in the clinic, and that's okay

  • The goal isn't 100% every time — consistent improvement over weeks is what matters

  • Different sounds develop at different ages — some take longer than others

When to talk to your therapist:

  • If accuracy stays below 50% after several weeks of regular practice

  • If your child is getting frustrated or refusing to practice

  • If you're not sure which sounds to focus on

  • If you notice your child struggling with sounds not assigned as homework

Your therapist can see your child's practice history in the app and will adjust the plan based on progress.
